One of the areas where we are working with Plan Vietnam is in a rural commune outside of Hanoi known as Hanh Nhan where women are receiving microloans.

On our last visit to this region, we were invited into the house of a woman who had been one of the recipients of a microloan.  In our conversation with Trung, the loan-recipient, we learned that she had used the loan to buy a pig hoping that she could sell it for money down the road.  Well, the day before we arrived, her pig had had 11 little piglets!  Trung was so excited as she began telling us about how much she could get for each pig when she sold it, and how she could use some of that money to invest in a second pig,  so she would constantly have income coming in  The rest she said would be used to take care of her ailing mother.
